چکیده

We consider the Coulomb drag between two metal rings in which the longrange Coulomb interaction leads to the formation of a Wigner crystal. The first ring is threaded by an Aharanov–Bohm flux, creating a persistent current J0. The second ring is brought into close proximity to the first and due to the Coulomb interaction between the two rings a drag current JD is produced in the second. We investigate this system at zero temperature for perfect rings as well as the effects of impurities. We show that the Wigner crystal state can in principle lead to a higher ratio of drag current to drive current JD/J0 than in weakly interacting electron systems.

Spin exchange in quantum rings and wires in the Wigner-crystal limit

We present a controlled method for computing the exchange coupling in strongly correlated one-dimensional electron systems. It is based on the asymptotically exact relation between the exchange constant and the paircorrelation function of spinless electrons. Explicit results are obtained for thin quantum rings with realistic Coulomb interactions, by calculating this function via a many-body ins...

Nonlocal Coulomb drag in Weyl semimetals

Nonlocality is one of the most striking signatures of the topological nature of Weyl semimetals. We propose to probe the nonlocality in these materials via a measurement of a magnetic-field-dependent Coulomb drag between two sheets of graphene which are separated by a three-dimensional slab of Weyl semimetal. We predict a mechanism of Coulomb drag, based on cyclotron orbits that are split betwe...

Exchange interaction in quantum rings and wires in the Wigner-crystal limit

We present a controlled method for computing the exchange coupling in correlated one-dimensional electron systems based on the relation between the exchange constant and the pair-correlation function of spinless electrons. This relation is valid in several independent asymptotic regimes, including the low-electron-density case, under the general condition of a strong spin-charge separation. Exp...

A one–dimensional gas of electrons interacting with long–range Coulomb forces (V (r) ≈ 1/r) is investigated. The excitation spectrum consists of separate collective charge and spin modes, with the charge excitation energies in agreement with RPA calculations. For arbitrarily weak Coulomb repulsion density correlations at wavevector 4k F decay extremely slowly and are best described as those of ...

Fate of the Wigner crystal on the square lattice

The phase diagram of a system of electrons hopping on a square lattice and interacting through long-range Coulomb forces is studied as a function of density and interaction strength. The presence of a lattice strongly enhances the stability of the Wigner crystal phase as compared to the case of the two-dimensional electron gas.
